Cristo & Stefka Radev, with whom Pastor Jeff has worked in Bulgaria for many years, will be speaking at our Tuesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 4, gatherings!  Cristo will be sharing a vision for missions in Bulgaria.  We will NOT meet Sunday, February 28, to allow folks to come on Thursday to meet and hear Cristo!  See you there!

We are making plans to have an Easter Egg Hunt for children of all ages on Saturday, April 3, the day before Easter Sunday! We will also have a craft and hot-dog cook-out! Specific time and more details are still to come! But mark your calendar now!  If you’d like to donate candy or plastic eggs, or help stuff and hide eggs, please let Pastor Jeff know!

Work Day graphicCome join us this Saturday, 20-February-2010, for a work day at the church site, 9917 103rd St., from 10:00am until about 2:00pm.  We are doing some light clearing work to prepare for our special Easter celebration.

Yes, I realize this is being posted on Friday, but you check the website every few hours, right?  Right?  ;-)

What is our special celebration?  You’ll have to watch this space for more information, I can’t tell you yet!  And then, in May … no, wait, I can’t tell you about that, either.  Just suffice it to say, they will both be fun!

Don’t forget the ongoing bible studies.  Sundays at 5:30 and Thursdays at 6:30 are at the pastor’s apartment, we are studying the Gospel of John; here is a picture and link to the study guide:

On Tuesday nights, we are meeting at a member’s house at 6:00pm and watching and discussing a video series, H2O.

With the holidays over and everyone back in town (who let the cold weather in?), we’ll be starting up bible studies again this week.  Sunday and Tuesday night studies as usual, and next month a new group is starting on Thursdays.  Watch here for details, or contact Jeff at pastorjeff@westsidepca.org.

Dec 26

Due to holidays and traveling schedules, we will not be having Bible Study until the week of January 10, 2010 (wow, is it really 2010?!?). Then, 3 weeks of wrapping up our previous series, and then into a new series for spring. You won’t want to miss it!

Dec 22

Well, we had a little flu scare, but by God’s Grace it seems to have passed both Jeff and Bette Jean by, so we are still on for tonight before we break for the holidays. Tuesday night at the Lawrence pad; call Pastor Jeff (904-705-5685) for directions or more information.

Nov 11

The first week of bible studies were awesome.  If you missed the first week, you can still attend the second or third week.  And, starting the fourth week, we will be doing a special advent study, which will be very accessible for your friends that either don’t go to church (“unchurched”), or have gone in the past and have issues (“de-churched”).

The first week we looked at, “What is a disciple?”  The next two weeks will be looking at “Biblical Images of The Church.”  Come join us for fun, fellowship, and … fstudy!  Sorry, I couldn’t think of a “f” word for study.

Nov 3

Starting Sunday, 8 Nov 2009, at 5:30pm and Tuesday, 10 Nov 2009, at 6:30pm, we are starting our bible studies at Westside PCA. The studies will meet at Pastor Jeff and Bette Jean’s apartment (call Jeff @ 904-705-5685 for exact location and directions).  The first 3 weeks will be starting a study devoted to Jeff’s vision for the new church, and the model from the Bible.  Then, we will take a few weeks off for an Advent study, which would be perfect for inviting friends who haven’t discovered Jesus.  As Jeff said, everyone likes to hear about angels and shepherds around Christmas time.

The format will be the same for both studies: some gathering time, a light meal (the first few weeks will be provided, then we’ll transition to a potluck), a Bible study, then some time for prayer.  Sunday will run from 5:30pm until 7:30pm, and Tuesday will run from 6:30pm until 8:30pm.

If you are interested, contact Jeff via email (PastorJeff@westsidepca.org) or phone (904-705-5685).

Oct 12

As of Sunday, 11 October 2009, Westside Presbyterian Church is an officially-recognized church in the Presbyterian Church in America. Jeff was installed as the pastor by Dr. Frank Barker, one of the early pastors in the PCA, and is pastor emeritus of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL, where he was senior pastor until his retirement.

Dr. Barker gave a talk on Zecharaiah 4, and spoke on the Providence of God, and the Provision of God. One inspirational story Dr. Barker shared was on a new believer at a prayer breakfast, who challenged those attending to pray that God would fill the church on Sunday. Since it was Tuesday morning, and there was no time to send out flyers or some other big promotion, it seemed a problem too big to solve. Yet, as Dr. Barker was saying an opening prayer, he could see many cars pulling into the parking lot, just as they had asked. They prayed, and God answered, exceedingly abundantly more than they had even asked for.

So, as Jeff and Betty Jean settle in, they will be organizing bible studies in homes. And, watch this space for information about a special Advent study that you can invite your neighbors to, because even non-Christians like to hear about the shepherds and angels around Christmas.
